It was a shock to the senses to come to a busy city like Phnom Penh after having been on an internet free island for a few days.
As this was the last section of my 5 month trip I decided to have a little luxury and booked myself into the Blue Lime hotel. It was gorgeous! A simply designed room, which overlooked the pool and the lush greenery surrounding its blue waters. The hotel was the perfect base to explore the busy city.
I was next to the Royal Palace. I decided to see the Palace on my second day and wander around on the first day. This turned out to be a bit of a mistake…
The roads here are very busy. The traffic doesn’t come from the direction you might expect if people were following the road rules so you need to be careful when stepping out onto the road.
My end of town had a number of boutiques which were lovely to browse through. I came to one that I really liked and entered up doing nearly all of my Christmas shopping there. The products were such good value and this store was also a charity that had been running for a number of years so it was good to see my money going to a good cause.
A busy morning wandering and shopping deserved some relaxing. I found this at the Bodia Spa. I treated myself to a facial and a foot massage; done at the same time. Absolute bliss. I floated out.
My mistake became apparent on my second day as when I headed to see the Palace I was told it was shut until 1pm for a special ceremony. My flight was leaving at 3pm so no viewing of the Palace for me.
Across the road from the Palace is the convergence of the Tonle Sap and Mekong Rivers. I may not have got to see the inside of the Palace but that was made up by watching life on the river. I even got to see a local dragon boat team practising.
